Vegetarian Diet Associated with Improved Glycemic Control in those with Type 2 Diabetes

glycemic controlA study published in the journal Cardiovascular Diagnosis and Therapy, and published online by the U.S. National Institute of Health, has found that a vegetarian diet is associated with improved glycemic control in those with type 2 diabetes.

For the study, researchers performed a “systematic review and meta-analysis of controlled clinical trials examining the association between vegetarian diets and glycemic control in type 2 diabetes.” During this review, differences “in HbA1c [hemoglobin A1c] and fasting blood glucose levels associated with vegetarian diets were assessed.”

Examining 477 separate studies, researchers found that; “Consumption of vegetarian diets is associated with improved glycemic control in type 2 diabetes.”
