London Named Most Vegan-Friendly City

HappyCow, a 20-year old vegan restaurant guide which covers over 180 countries and over 8,000 restaurants, has released its list of 2019’s top 10 most vegan friendly cities in the world.

Topping the list for the second year in a row is London, the capital of the United Kingdom. In 2017 London became the first city to have over 100 completely vegan restaurants – they now have an impressive 152. Rounding out the top three are New York (U.S.) and Berlin (Germany).

According to HappyCow, this list “is determined by four main factors: the number of vegan restaurants in a five-mile radius in the most vegan restaurant-dense area in each city, the number of vegan/vegetarian/veg-option restaurants in the same five-mile radius, vegan restaurant count to population density, and our impression of the over-all vegan-friendliness of the city (availability of festivals, meetups, & community).”

“Veganism continues to become a mainstream lifestyle in London, and this city takes veganism to a new level,” says Ken Spector, a spokesperson for HappyCow.

The full top 10 list includes:

  1. London, U.K.
  2. New York, U.S.
  3. Berlin, Germany
  4. Los Angeles, U.S.
  5. Toronto, Canada
  6. Warsaw, Poland
  7. Portland, U.S.
  8. Bangkok, Thailand
  9. Tel Aviv, Israel
  10. Prague, Czech Republic

Of this list, Bangkok is the only city that was also part of the 2018 top 10 list.
