McDonalds to Launch its First Certified Vegan Meal on January 2

In just a few weeks McDonalds will launch its first-ever certified vegan meal in both the United Kingdom and Ireland.

According to McDonalds, the meal will launch on January 2. It will feature vegan Veggie Dippers, which are chicken strip-shaped nuggets of red pepper, rice, sun-dried tomato pesto and split peas. These dippers can either be purchased by themselves for £3.29, or can be purchased as a meal with french fries and a drink for £4.99.

The Veggie Dippers can also be ordered in a Happy Meal, where they’ll be paired with either vegetable sticks, french fries or fruit, along with a drink and toy.

“In the last 12 months, we’ve seen an 80-percent uplift in customers ordering vegetarian options at McDonald’s, so it is time for the brand famous for the dippable McNugget to launch a dippable option for our vegetarian, vegan, and flexitarian customers,” says Thomas O’Neill, the head of food marketing at McDonald’s UK and Ireland. “The Veggie Dippers are a delicious addition to our menu and we’re looking forward to seeing what customers make of our first vegan Extra Value Meal and Happy Meal in the New Year.”
