MorningStar to Go Entirely Vegan by 2021

MorningStar Farms has announced that it’s converting all of its products to be entirely vegan by 2021.

MorningStar, which is owned by the Kellogg Company, produces a wide variety of vegetarian products such as burgers, sausages, bacon, riblets and corn dogs. However, only a few of their products are vegan, with most containing egg whites. Now, after years of being pushed to do so by vegan activists, the company has announced that it will be making all 32 of its products plant-based by 2021. This will have a considerable impact on the egg market, given MorningStar uses over 300 million egg whites in their products every year.

“More people are looking for options that are vegan,” says Mel Cash, head of global marketing for plant-based protein at Kellogg, told MarketWatch. “It’s for anyone who has the desire to eat less meat or more plant-based.” Thank

MorningStar has confirmed that all of its products will retain the same amount of protein even after the switch from egg whites to their “proprietary plant-based blend”.

Although the company won’t be entirely vegan until 2021, 65% of their products will be vegan by the end of this year.

Making them still taste good would be nice. I’m all for their recent move to remove GMO soy and artificial flavors and colors, and this plan to make everything vegan is great. The problem is all of the products are no longer good-tasting. It seems as though little effort was made during this reformulation to make sure the food is delicious. More work is needed.
