The popular burger chain Shake Shack has officially become the next major franchise to launch a vegan cheeseburger as part of their permanent menu (on several occasions Shake Shack has introduced a temporary vegan burger).
The new additional to Shake Shake’s menu is called the Vegan Crispy Shallot Burger. It features vegan smoky cheddar cheese, beer-marinated shallots that are fried, vegan dijonaise and a potato bun. Rather than doing what other chains like Burger King have opted for – using the Impossible or Beyond Burger – Shake Shake is using a housemade, mushroom-based patty.
The new burger is unfortunately only available right now in the United Kingdom, but Burger Shake says they’re considering expanding to the United States. The burger was developed by chef Neil Rankin in partnership with Shake Shack’s Director of Culinary and Product Development Jim Frisch.
“We couldn’t be more excited to bring this delicious burger to our Shack fans and vegan friends,” says Frisch. “Working with Chef Neil Rankin, we developed a one-of-a-kind vegan patty that delivers on everything we love about a great burger—decadent, juicy, satisfying, and packed full of umami flavour. Our Crispy Shallot Burger is a new, plant-based twist, on some of our Shack classics . We can’t wait for you to try it.”
