It’s Good for You
Science has continually shown that following a vegan diet is extremely beneficial to a person’s health. For example, a National Institute of Health study from 2013 found that those following a vegan or vegetarian diet are considerably less likely to die from a variety of ailments such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and renal disorders such as kidney failure.
Studies have also shown that a vegan diet can protect against things such as prostate cancer, type-2 diabetes and breast cancer, and can extend the lives of those with conditions such as chronic kidney disease.
A recent report from the World Health Organization found that processed meats are linked to cancer, and that all meat is likely carcinogenic.
It’s Good for the Environment
According to a report released by the Worldwatch Institute, 51% or more of global greenhouse-gas emissions is caused by factory farming animals. Even the United Nations has stated that animal agriculture is “one of the top two or three most significant contributors to the most serious environmental problems, at every scale from local to global.”
According to the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization, farming of livestock is responsible for 65% of human-related emissions of nitrous oxide, which has 296 times the global warming potential of carbon dioxide (it stays in the atmosphere for at least 150 years).

According to the Humane Society of The United States, there are over 9 billion animals slaughtered in factory farms each year. Reports have shown that each person that decides to follow a vegan diet is directly saving 100 or more animals each year.
Many of these animals are treated horrendously prior to being slaughtered, with little to no regulations in place in most areas that would provide for their well-being. Even for farms that are “cage-free”, animals are typically confined to small areas, and even if they’re not they still have their lives cut short when it’s time for them to be slaughtered.
Animals feel pain and fear, and killing them for our own selfish desires is an inherent wrong. Going vegan helps to put a stop to a lot of suffering and death (although it will take a mass awakening by the general public before the majority of this will end).

According to a study conducted by researchers at the University of Minnesota’s Institute on the Environment; “Even small shifts in our allocation of crops to animal feed and biofuels could significantly increase global food availability, and could be an instrumental tool in meeting the challenges of ensuring global food security.”
This is due to the fact that 36% of the calories in crops are being fed to farmed animals, yet only 12% of those calories make their way into the human diet as meat.
The researchers reported that growing crops for direct human consumption rather than as agriculture feed increases available food calories by up to 70% and that the newly freed-up crops would be enough to feed an additional 4 billion people, more than enough to help all of those currently suffering from a lack of proper nutrition.
Eat Guilt Free!
There are few things as enjoyable as indulging on a vegan pastry, slice of cake, veggie burger, etc., knowing that it’s cruelty free. It’s an amazing feeling knowing that – at least to your best knowledge – there was absolutely no animal harmed in the making of your food, and that the food your consuming came entirely from the earth, or at least from ingredients not harvested from an animal.
When you’re aware of how heinously farm animals are treated, and when you’re aware of the damage it’s causing to the environment and your health, it’s hard to fully enjoy eating a meal that isn’t vegan.
