The world’s first entirely vegan chain of supermarkets – Veganz – will be making its way to the U.S. later this year, with the first to open in Portland, Oregon. Veganz currently has two stores open in Berlin, Germany, as well as locations in Hamburg, Munic, and Frankfurt.
Jan Bredack, founder of Veganz and author of Vegan für alle: Warum wir richtig leben sollten” (Veganism for everyone: Why we should live right), says that the chain decided recently to go international after seeing a rapid uprising in support for vegan products. Although Portland will be the chain’s first U.S. location, more are expected to open in the near future, though no specific details or timelines were given.
In addition to a vegan grocery store, Veganz also plans to open a vegan clothing and shoe store and a restaurant. They’ve been planning the opening of these locations since 2014.
