Stumptown Coffee, which operates 10 locations in three states as well as Japan, has made oat milk the default milk option for their drinks.
Until this announcement Stumptown, like most coffee chains, has used cow-based milk as their default choice while offering plant-based options for those who request it. This new move makes oat milk the default milk for coffee drinks like lattes and mochas, while giving consumers the options of changing it to cow-based milk.
“Beginning this year, all Stumptown cafés began serving oatmilk as the default in every milk-based drink,” said Stumptown in an announcement. “We still want to make your drink the way you’d like to drink it, so just let your barista know if you have another milk preference. The best part is, we don’t up-charge for any milk option—dairy or plant-based.”
Stumptown is also offering a retail line of cold brew in partnership with Oatly’s which includes flavors like Chocolate and Horchata.
“We’re super proud to partner with Oatly, and we’re stoked that every purchase of Stumptown Cold Brew with Oatly gets them closer to their ambition of 2.9 billion liters of Oatly consumed in place of cow’s dairy between 2019 and 2025,” says Stumptown.
People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) has issued a Compassionate Coffee Chain Award to Stumptown for the move to make oat milk the default milk option.
