Victoria’s Secret Announces Ban on Animal-Based Cashmere

Apparel company Victoria’s Secret & Co has announced that they have placed a ban on the selling of animal-based cashmere at all of its locations

The ban applies to both Victoria’s Secret locations as well as their PINK stores and PINK-branded products, and it covers all of their worldwide locations in over 60 countries.

“Victoria’s Secret’s decision is a win for the countless gentle goats who will be spared the agonizing ordeal of someone ripping their hair out,” says Tracy Reiman, PETA’s executive vice president said in a statement.  “PETA asks everyone to help goats keep their hair by choosing vegan fabrics, which aren’t produced by condemning animals to a lifetime of suffering.”

PETA has pushed the company to ban cashmere for months, after their investigations found intense mistreatment of animals at cashmere farms in China and Mongolia, which combined make up 90% of the world’s supply of the fabric.

In addition to PETA’s undercover investigators discovering goats being mishandled and regularly injured and mauled, they found that as soon as a goat is deemed unprofitable, their throats are slit.

PETA was previously successful in lobbying Victoria’s Secret to remove Angora rabbit fur and alpaca fleece.
