Taco Del Mar Introduces Plant-Based Spicy Chorizo Hash to All U.S. and Canada Locations

As of January 24 fast-foot chain Taco Del Mar is offering an all-new Spicy Chorizo Hash at all of their U.S. and Canada locations.

Spicy Chorizo Hash is a “deliciously seasoned protein option made with plant-based chorizo, diced potatoes, chopped onion and serrano peppers”, according to a press release. “Crafted with just the right amount of kick, this new menu ingredient fits in perfectly with the Baja flavors across the board and can be added to any entrée including tacos, burritos, bowls and more at no additional cost.”

Mike Gieseman, Vice President of Culinary and Innovation at Taco Del Mark, says that the companit prioritizes “guest satisfaction and menu innovation at Taco Del Mar in order to offer ingredients fit for everyone while providing our signature Baja flavors.” He says the chain’s guests “will love this adventurous new ingredient that meshes perfectly as a protein choice with our extensive menu and offers an exciting new dining experience without sacrificing flavor or quality.”

Stumptown Coffee Chain Makes Oat Milk their Default Milk Option

Stumptown Coffee, which operates 10 locations in three states as well as Japan, has made oat milk the default milk option for their drinks.

Until this announcement Stumptown, like most coffee chains, has used cow-based milk as their default choice while offering plant-based options for those who request it. This new move makes oat milk the default milk for coffee drinks like lattes and mochas, while giving consumers the options of changing it to cow-based milk.

“Beginning this year, all Stumptown cafés began serving oatmilk as the default in every milk-based drink,” said Stumptown in an announcement. “We still want to make your drink the way you’d like to drink it, so just let your barista know if you have another milk preference. The best part is, we don’t up-charge for any milk option—dairy or plant-based.”

Report: Global Plant-Based Meat Market Worth $10.8 Billion, Anticipated to Grow to $42.7 Billion by 2028

A new report by the IMARC Group has found that the plant-based meat market is now worth over $10 billion, and is expected to grow at a massive rate in the coming years. The market also found that it will grow at a rate of times 2 over the coming 5 to 10 years, with no slowdown in the site. This pairs with two other recent reports that found similar results

Titled “Plant-Based Meat Market: Global Industry Trends, Share, Size, Growth, Opportunity, and Forecast 2023-2028 ,” the report found that the global plant-based meat market size reached$10.8 Billion in 2022. The report anticipates the market to reach $42.7 Billion by 2028, exhibiting a growth rate (CAGR) of 25.64% during 2023-2028.

The global market is majorly driven “by the accelerating health consciousness among the masses”, states the report. “Consumers are increasingly becoming aware of the health benefits associated with plant-based diets and are actively seeking out products that provide these benefits. Besides this, the rising popularity of veganism for health and ethical reasons and the increasing number of consumers opting for vegetarian ingredients to avoid animal cruelty is significantly support the demand for plant-based meat.”

UK Supermarket Asda to Launch 110 New Plant-Based Products

Asda, a supermarket chain in the UK, has introduced a huge selection of new plant-based products this year, with more to come.

Asda this month officially launch their new OMV! range of plant-based offerings. These “decadent, tasty treat” include everything from No Pork Caramelized Red Onion Sausages and ready-made No Prawn Sandwiches, to Choc Brownies and a Salted Fudge Chocolate Bar.

In addition to this, Asda’s standard Plant Based range will be expanded with new options like bacon-style rashers and a Chick*n Caesar Wrap featuring flame-grilled soy protein pieces, vegan Caesar-style mayonnaise, lettuce, tomato, gherkins, and vegan cheese.

Plant-Based MingsBings Now Available at Hundreds of Publix and Sprouts Locations Nationwide

MingsBings, a plant-based frozen food brand founded by Iron Chef Ming Tsai is now available at over 800 Publix and over 400 Sprouts locations.

Using an East meets West culinary style, James Beard and Emmy award-winning Chef Tsai blends the ancient Chinese “bing” format with familiar Western flavors like cheeseburger and taco but with a plant-based, gluten-free and dairy-free spin. Edinburgh Joins the Plant-Based Treaty, First Capital City in Europe to Do So

The City of Edinburgh Council has voted to have their city join the Plant-Based Treaty, making them the first Scottish city and first capital in Europe to do so.

According to the official website for the Plant Based Treaty, the initiative “aims to halt the widespread degradation of critical ecosystems caused by animal agriculture, to promote a shift to more healthy, sustainable plant-based diets and to actively reverse damage done to planetary functions, ecosystem services and biodiversity.”

The proposal to join the treaty was introduced by Councilmember Steve Burgess. In March Burgess introduced a motion, that was passed by the council, to have the city produce an impact assessment report to study the potential joining of the Plant-Based Treaty.

Taiwan Lawmakers Pass Climate Bill that Includes Mandate to Promote Plant-Based Foods

Taiwan lawmakers have given approval to legislation that would mandate the promotion of low-carbon diets, including plant-based diets.

The measure was passed through its third and final reading on January 10th. It’s expected to soon be signed into law by President Tsai Ing-wen.

Among other items the proposal states that the Council of Agriculture must promote diets that lead to waste reduction and are low-carbon. The measure specifically mentions plant-based diets as one such option, in addition to diets that are heavy in locally-produced foods.
